The Beginning…
The mental health crisis here in the United States of America and here in New Jersey has reached epic proportions. The stresses of society have really led to people having an increased incidence of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders. There's so much trauma in society. Now we're seeing more and more post-traumatic stress. We're seeing more substance abuse.
In the United States, there is a massive shortage of mental health professionals and that's at every level; psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers.
And so the difficulty of finding a qualified mental health professional is a real crisis that is facing this country.
There are two target groups for the scholarship. One scholarship will be targeted to people, anyone going into a mental health field, be it psychiatric medicine, psychology, social work, etc. The second target group are people who themselves had mental health challenges in their lives and are also pursuing a career in the field of mental health.
The scholarship is open to everyone regardless of background, regardless of their faith.
